At the virtual G20 summit, Russia invokes its “humanitarian side”: President Putin wants to make the vaccine “Sputnik V” available to other countries. He then praised the US for its efforts to get the world economy going again.

At the G20 summit, Russian President Vladimir Putin offered the international community broad access to the “Sputnik V” vaccine developed in Russia. His country supports the decision of the G20 summit to make vaccines available to the entire population of the planet, said the 68-year-old at the meeting organized by host Saudi Arabia as a video conference.

Russia is ready to provide its self-developed vaccines – there are three different – needy states. Putin said competition among the vaccine manufacturers is inevitable. But first of all it is also about the “humanitarian side”.

“Our common goal is to create a stock of vaccine preparations and to guarantee reliable protection for the entire population of the planet,” said the Russian President. The main risk of the pandemic continues to be mass unemployment and the resulting increase in poverty.

In his speech, Putin explicitly praised the US, which had done a lot to get the world economy going again. “The coronavirus pandemic, global lockdown and freezing of economic activity have sparked a systematic economic crisis that the world has not seen since the Great Depression,” Putin said. The Great Depression of 1929 in the USA is considered to be the trigger for the Great Depression in the 1930s.

Russia has not yet received international approval for any of its vaccines. The effectiveness of “Sputnik V” has not yet been proven by an independent body. Russia has already approved the vaccine for widespread use and has concluded supply contracts with other countries. Two more vaccines are expected to be used next year.
