The German ski jumping team flies to a strong second place at the start of the season in Wisla, Poland. After the first round, the German team led by three-time Seefeld world champion Eisenbichler even narrowly leads, but in the end the Austrians grabbed the victory.
The German ski jumpers started the World Cup winter in Wisla with a strong second place in the team competition. Markus Eisenbichler, Karl Geiger, Constantin Schmid and Pius Paschke only had to admit defeat to World Cup second Austria (1078.0) with 1069.3 points. Third was host Poland (1061.5), Olympic champion Norway (1024.2) was already well behind in fourth place.
Triple world champion Eisenbichler brought the final jumper with a flight of 127.0 m, the second place under wraps. After the first round, the DSV quartet was still in the lead ahead of Austria. The eternal rival struck back with Stefan Kraft, Daniel Huber, Michael Hayböck and Philipp Aschenwald and gave the new head coach Andreas Widhölzl a tailor-made start.
In the previous season, the German eagles completely messed up the season opener in Wisla with fifth place. The last time there was a victory at the start was 2015 in Klingenthal. On Sunday (4 p.m. / ARD and Eurosport) the first individual of the winter is on the program.
