Director Rob Cohen denies
Argento is making new allegations of abuse
She is one of the best known faces of the #MeToo movement: Now actress Asia Argento accuses director Rob Cohen of having sexually abused her. This denies the allegations and refers to Argento’s past.
The Italian actress Asia Argento has accused US director Rob Cohen of sexual abuse. Cohen abused her in 2002 while shooting his action film “xXx – Triple X”, said the 45-year-old in an interview with the Italian daily “Corriere della Sera” on the occasion of her upcoming autobiography.
“This is the first time I’ve talked about Cohen,” said Argento. “He abused me by making me drink GHB, he had a bottle.” The party drug GHB is also known as the “rape drug” because, among other things, it makes its victims mindless. “At the time, I honestly didn’t know what it was. I woke up naked in his bed that morning,” she added.
Argento was himself accused of sexual assault
A spokesman for the director denied the allegations. The allegations were “absolutely false,” he told the AFP news agency. Cohen and Argento had “an excellent working relationship” during the filming. Argento’s claims are “confusing” – “especially given what has been reported about her over the past few years,” the spokesman added.
Argento was accused of sexual assault himself in 2018. The US actor Jimmy Bennett accused her of sexually assaulting him at the age of 17 in a hotel in California. The actress admitted the sexual contact, but denied that the initiative came from her.
The Italian is one of the most prominent representatives of the #MeToo movement. In 2017, she was one of the first actresses to accuse Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein of rape.
