Four days after the historic 0: 6 dismantling with the German national soccer team in Spain, Timo Werner is doing his best as a goal setter at Chelsea FC. The top of the table are taken over by José Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur, who plunge Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City deeper into the crisis.
Chelsea FC was able to celebrate the leap to the top of the table at least briefly in the Premier League. The team around the German national soccer players Timo Werner and Antonio Rüdiger prevailed in the afternoon with 2-0 (1-0) at Newcastle United. An own goal by Federico Fernández (10th minute) and a goal by Tammy Abraham (65th) after submission by Werner were enough for the Blues to win.
In the evening, Tottenham Hotspur countered: The Spurs, which were initially overtaken by Chelsea, won 2-0 (1-0) against Manchester City and for their part took the lead, which Leicester City could take back on Sunday evening with a win against Jürgen Klopp’s champions Liverpool FC. The Reds have only very theoretical chances of jumping to first place because of the poorer goal difference.
Werner aims just past the gate
Former Bundesliga professional Heung-Min Son (5th minute) and Giovani Lo Celso (65th), who scored exactly 28 seconds after being substituted on, were successful for the Tottenham team of start coach José Mourinho. After coach Pep Guardiola’s contract extension, the Citizens remain in tenth place below expectations.
Werner, who suffered a historic 6-0 bankruptcy in Spain with the German national team on Tuesday, had bad luck twice in Newcastle. When the former Leipziger appeared free in front of the gate after half an hour, he shot just past the left post. In the 76th minute he scored a goal, which did not count because of an offside position. For the first time in this Premier League season, Rüdiger came to the Blues. The defender was in the starting line-up because Thiago Silva was missing. Kai Havertz, who was infected with the corona virus, was not yet available to Chelsea FC.
